Productivity Strategies

Does it seem like your task list is longer than your day? You may even dream of the day when you complete your to-do list. If you are like most professionals, you are probably searching for tips to increase your productivity. These are a few strategies you may consider.

Get Up and Move

When you get up and move around, your circulation improves, stimulating your brain. Although many studies suggest that you should get up and move around every 30 minutes, this period is not always the best for your workflow or creativity. Therefore, consider a five-minute walk or stretch period every 60 minutes or so. You can also change positions by using a standing desk. As you take yourself away from your work and increase your heart rate and circulation, your brain becomes rejuvenated. Look for signs that you need to get out of your chair, such as searching social media and consistently checking your email or phone.

Use Your Commute

If you spend time in the car, either commuting to and from the office or running errands, you have time you can use. You can also use the time it takes to cook dinner and do other chores. These periods are great for listening to podcasts or audiobooks. They are opportunities to increase your knowledge and learn new things. You can even listen to a motivational speaker. Instead of zoning out, use this time wisely.

Adopt an Accountability Strategy

If you are the boss, it can be challenging to find someone to hold you accountable. This is especially challenging if you own your own company and work by yourself. Therefore, you need to build a strategy. It may involve a spouse, friend or peer. Be sure you check in with your accountability partner at least once per week to prevent yourself from falling behind.

Build a To-Do List

Start your day by creating a to-do list, but be sure to prioritize it. Start with at least three things that you absolutely have to complete that day. Place these in order of priority. Create deadlines for each of these three tasks. Then, add less-urgent tasks to your list. Start with the most important or those that need to be done first. Do not skip around on your list. Start on the first task and complete it. Then, move to the next.

These are only a few productivity strategies you may consider. Test them out and adopt those that help you the most.
