Apple Unveils 14-Inch MacBook Pro With M6 and 24-Hour Battery life

For small businesses that rely on one computer for client work, sales, design, development, and remote collaboration, Apple’s new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 aims to make a high-end laptop a more capable all-purpose work machine.

Apple announced the laptop on October 27, with preorders scheduled to open October 28 and deliveries beginning November 6. The computer starts at $1,999 in the U.S., or $1,899 with education savings. Apple says it offers faster performance, expanded on-device artificial intelligence capabilities, Wi-Fi 7, and up to 24 hours of battery life.

The company describes the M6-powered MacBook Pro as a major upgrade for users moving from older Intel-based Macs or Apple’s M1 systems. Compared with the previous M5 model, Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster on-device AI workloads. Users upgrading from M1 could see up to 11 times faster graphics and up to 13 times faster AI performance, according to Apple’s testing.

Those gains could matter for small companies that handle demanding work in-house rather than outsourcing it. A marketing agency could use the laptop for video exports, image processing, and campaign development. A software consultancy could benefit from faster code compilation. An architecture, engineering, or product-design firm could use the improved graphics performance for 3D modeling and rendering. Meanwhile, a business owner managing multiple browser tabs, accounting software, video meetings, and cloud applications may benefit from the additional CPU cores and unified memory.

Apple’s M6 includes a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU, additional Neural Accelerators, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. The laptop includes 16GB of unified memory as standard and can be configured with up to 32GB. Storage and other technical specifications vary by configuration.

“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI. With its amazing battery life, remarkable Liquid Retina XDR display, and even faster connectivity, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 delivers a fantastic combination of performance, capability, and value.”

For small businesses exploring AI tools, the laptop’s on-device processing could offer practical advantages. Apple says the M6 can run large language models locally and support Apple Intelligence features while keeping some processing on the computer instead of sending all data to the cloud. That could appeal to firms handling confidential client documents, internal records, or proprietary creative work.

The accompanying macOS 27 system adds Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features across applications. Apple says Siri can use personal context from messages, email, and photos, answer questions, and perform tasks across apps. Other features include automated Safari tab organization, website-change alerts, custom extensions, intelligent photo editing, and the ability to create Shortcuts automations using natural-language descriptions.

For a small business, these functions could help automate repetitive administrative work, organize research, monitor product availability, or edit content. However, Apple says Siri AI will initially be available in beta and only in certain languages and regions. Some server-based Apple Intelligence features will also have daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access may eventually require a fee. Businesses should therefore confirm availability, data-handling policies, and workflow reliability before making AI a central part of operations.

The laptop also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio. Those features could support remote sales calls, client presentations, training sessions, and hybrid teams. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 provide newer connectivity standards, while the device retains three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack. It supports up to two external displays.

Battery life represents another potential benefit for owners and employees who work away from a desk. Apple rates the laptop for up to 24 hours, though actual results will depend on software, screen brightness, configuration, and workload. Fast charging can reach 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C power adapter.

The largest obstacle for many small businesses will be cost. At nearly $2,000 before tax, accessories, software, and extended support, the M6 MacBook Pro represents a substantial equipment purchase. Companies should compare the price with less expensive laptops if employees primarily use web-based applications, email, point-of-sale tools, or standard office software. The performance premium may be easier to justify for workers who regularly edit video, compile code, create 3D content, or run local AI models.

Apple offers trade-in credits, AppleCare coverage, and, for eligible U.S. customers, an Apple Upgrade lease starting at $38.99 per month for 36 months. That lease does not automatically transfer ownership to the customer. Apple says early termination may trigger substantial charges, damage fees may apply, and upgrades require a new lease and additional approval. The program also is not available through Apple at Work for small businesses or enterprises, according to the release, so business buyers should review eligibility carefully.

Apple says the new MacBook Pro contains 45% recycled content overall, including recycled aluminum in the enclosure and recycled cobalt in the battery. The company also says the laptop uses renewable electricity across part of its supply chain and is designed for durability and repairability. Those claims may matter to businesses tracking sustainability goals, although buyers should still evaluate the company’s environmental reporting and the device’s expected service life.

More details, configurations, and ordering information are available in Apple’s original announcement. For a small business, the most important buying question is not simply whether the M6 is faster, but whether that extra performance will reduce production time, support new services, or replace other equipment enough to justify the investment.
